The Batman Diorama 3D print model
Batman as always been one of those superheroes that I wanted to make a Diorama that I could 3D print and when I DSK released his Batmobile models for 3D print (You can find the STL files for the modes here) I decided I would try and make the Batcave.Initially, I created the 3d model for a platform that would hold the batman car. I've used the 3d model from DSK for scale and made sure it would work with the multiple versions he released.
I also gave it enough space so that a small action figure of batman could be added. In one of the version, I've used Fotis Mint Batman 3D model - You can find the STL files for the model on his Patreon here.
I needed to find a way for this Platform to the rest of the diorama and I wanted the platform to hang in the air. Cables would not work at a smaller scale and also it would mean that the top of the diorama would be covered so I decided that I would make the tunnel from where Batman leaves the Batcave.
This was all going well and I was very happy with how it looked. It was already made to be easy to 3D print, bellow you can see how the parts can be printed with almost no supports.
Now the main issue I had was, its a Batcave, it has rocks so I could make the tunnel slide into the rocks, but doing a model of these rocks in Fusion 360 was not going to happen. So I took the decision to try out Zbrush and using the models exported from Fusion I was able to model this.
It was made so that it can be printed in parts for larger scale or smaller 3d printer and as one part for smaller size models.
The parts all fitted well, so on to painting. I used black primer for all of the parts, and for the rocks, I've applied a thin coat of gunmetal - Airbrushed with Vallejo gunmetal on the right side of the rocks and then with a metallic blue I did the left side. Always making sure this was a soft, thin coat and only painting top down to ensure its creating shadows and depth.
The rocks when printed in parts might need a bit of putty on the seams and sanding but that's not a massive task but it does improve the fila result of the diorama.
The platform and tunnel were left black with a matt varnish so that when the Batman and Batmobile were added they would not be outshined by the rest of the diorama.
This diorama was made for 3d printed models but you could use it for other scale models, even 1/6 scale if you have a big enough 3d printer. Hope you have fun and please share your version of this batman diorama 3d print
The STLs for this 3d printed diorama can be found on Patreon, MyMiniFactory and Cults3D
Have fun,
