I was a big fan of Stargate and watched all the movies and shows and when I got into 3D printing I wanted to print the Cheops Class Pyramid starship Stargate. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a model that was detailed enough and that was good enough, so I decided to create a new model that I could make in my 3D printer.
It took me some time to search and find good references and after making the 3d model I had some trouble with the details on the faces of the pyramid Starship. After some work I finally made it. The model was based on some photos from the original movie and some details from the tv show.
I've designed the model to be printed in FDM, to fit smaller bed size 3d printer and to be easy enough to 3d print, but the faces need to be printed in a DLP/SLA resin printer if the model is to be printed in a smaller as the details are too small for FDM.
At 100% scale, the Stargate pyramid is 400mm wide, but it can be scaled down to 50% and fit a bed that is 200mm. The model was split into smaller files, each level is printed on its own. It’s simpler for printing with almost no supports needed. Each sections being its own STL allows for easier print.
After printing the model I decided it needed a base, and it made perfect sense to create a base that represented how the Starship Pyramid would land. So the base is modelled as the pyramids in the desert.
